Foliage and Literature

It's October, and here in New England where the weather changes as often as celebrities change hairstyles, that means color...and lots of it!

The leaves on the treetops are becoming so achingly beautiful with their bright and burnt oranges, cheerful yellows and deep reds, I want to inhale them all and soak it all up into myself. In my life (and perhaps yours as well), there are moments that seem to be just as enchanting as the pictures painted with words in books. You look around and the beauty around you is just a bit overwhelming in a very good way. Meg Ryan has a line in the film You've Got Mail that goes something like this, "Everything in life reminds me of something I've read in a book. Shouldn't it be the other way around?" Moments like that remind me of this cinematic line, but I don't always agree. I feel that when something I see in life reminds me of something I've read in a book, it enhances the experience and shows me something in the beauty (or tragedy) of it that I may not have experienced otherwise and vice versa.

Hmmm...today I'm living in a fairytale and thrilled about it! Let me know what you think...

I love a good book...

Hello out there, intelligent minds!

Are you nauseated by the fact that some people don't have a clue what to read unless Oprah shouts her favorite titles from the hilltops? Are you sick of Oprah monopolizing the book club world? Do you cringe at the overdramatic fanfare surrounding the release of a new Oprah Book Club book? Well, I am! I don't understand why people follow (worship?) Oprah the way they do. She's human just like the rest of us. Her opinion is just that, an opinion. I'm sure she's a lovely woman, but c'mon! We don't all need to wait with bated breath for Oprah to decide what we should be reading! Not that the books she chooses are bad. They're not. On the contrary, many of them are wonderful. I've read Ellen Foster and The Road...they were very good. I just don't always think we should be giving all of the power to a mortal woman with a talk show. Let me know how YOU feel... What are some of your favorite books? Favorite authors? Why? Share with us... For the record...I'm not an Oprah hater, just a skeptic.
